Sometimes I meet a person in education and am floored by their desire to do good coupled with their unshakeable integrity…

Creator of the Politics in Education Summit, Heidi Williams, is one of those people. Via her event, we’re invited to officially explore and question the status quo of the place of Politics in Education.

In Heidi’s words, here’s why she created this Summit: Continue reading

“Politicians are Aware - Just Don’t Want to Face the Truth”

This is a pure example of looking out for work that comes your way and taking action on it. The story is that I’d never heard of David Price until a friend emailed this:

open“…I also was thinking of you on the plane home, because I was reading OPEN: How we’ll work, live and learn in the future by David Price… you may already have seen/read it, but if not, it is fascinating and well worth a look :)”

Not only did I take a look, but I stumbled on an interview Twitter Chat with David just days after this tip! What’s David saying? Well, some really exciting things…or scary things, depending on how you look at it :D

“50% of workers will be freelance in 5 years. We’re going to need communicators, collaborators, designers, problem-finders, cultural knowers. Our National Curriculum is too static, too rigid. Politicians are aware - just don’t want to face it.” Yikes! Right?

Here’s an examples of how to to throw yourself into a twitter chat with someone you admire…

Since this exciting twitter conversation, I got involved in the planning of the UK’s first ever ‘Politics in Education Summit’ which is now a free eCourse where you can learn directly from national leaders on Education & Policy about ‘how to recast our Government as a lever we can learn to understand and use effectively, rather than the provider of a service we critique’ -

On Happiness, Scarcity & Connection

AKA Did a “This World is Stupid!” Rant and the Huffington post featured it!

Sometimes the funniest things happen when we open our eyes.

It was Easter Sunday so the whole extended family (inc. my little nice and nephew) went along to a huge community Easter Egg Hunt. Awesome! You might say.

Yes…well… it got me thinking about some things…

And these chaotic thoughts became one short article published the next day in the Huffington Post. This was the first comment it received:

“An interesting analogy. Or should I say, analogies within an analogy. Just goes to show what a bit of thought can do to transform a situation which benefits everyone.”

EXTRACT: This is the way our great community Easter Egg Hunt fizzled out today. Each person walked away with a twinge of bitterness. The sad truth is; this experience flies too close to what we are doing to each other, across the world, through our single minded hunt for “eggs” …qualifications, jobs, assets, employees, status, ideas, votes, knowledge etc. The rest of this analogy I’ll leave to the reader’s imagination continue reading in the Huffington Post…

If you do read the article you’ll see how I end on a positive note by showcasing a few people I believe are doing some real work. One of them is a US teacher called AJ who’s well known for his ‘Student Choice’ programmes…

Concluding message: share what you see because, seriously, others may have missed it!
And here’s the full rant (ah, sorry!) article text… Continue reading
